Murray ousts Gasquet at Wimbledon
WIMBLEDON, England (AP) -Andy Murray ousted No. 8-seeded Richard Gasquet at Wimbledon on Monday to reach the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam for the first time.
The No. 12-seeded Murray rallied after losing the first two sets on Monday to prevail 5-7, 3-6, 7-6 (3), 6-2, 6-4 on Centre Court in a match that ended in near-darkness around 9:30 p.m.
Second-seeded Rafael Nadal is the next hurdle as Murray tries to become the first British man to triumph at the All England Club since Fred Perry in 1936.
Now he must recover from a five-set match before Wednesday's clash.
"I would have loved to have won a bit quicker but I've worked hard enough to be able to last these sort of matches every other day,'' the Scot said. "I've got to make sure I recover well tomorrow. Obviously, he's the favorite for the match but I obviously think I can win.''
The bulked-up Murray celebrated by pulling back his sleeve to flex his biceps at his fitness coaches in the crowd
"I've put in so much work off the court and that's the first time this year I've really had the chance to show it,'' he said.
