Roger Federer has announced two playing appearances during tennis’ off-season.
The 17-time Grand Slam champion will play in the International Tennis Premier League in early December, joining the New Delhi team following Rafael Nadal's withdrawal. It will be his first time playing in the country.
"India, here I come," he wrote on Twitter. "Looking forward to playing two matches in Delhi on December 7th & 8th. I'm beyond excited."
Nadal, who decided not to play to free up his off-season, was reported to be receiving $1 million per match.
Following his ITPL appearance, Federer will return to the court in two weeks, playing Stanislas Wawrinka for the Match for Africa 2, a Zurich exhibition with proceeds going to the Roger Federer foundation.
The 33-year-old is scheduled for an extended finish to the regular season, playing the World Tour Finals and the Davis Cup final.
Federer has also announced he will again begin next season in Brisbane.
He returns to competition at the Shanghai Masters in two weeks.
