Novak Djokovic has pulled out of next week’s ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Madrid, Marca has reported.
The world No. 1 has won all three Masters events held this year—at Indian Wells, Miami, and Monte Carlo—but according to Marca he is “exhausted after his exertions so far this season and has decided to lighten his schedule.”
Djokovic also did not play Madrid last year, so he will not lose any ranking points for his withdrawal. In 2014 he won the following week’s Masters tournament in Rome, defeating Rafael Nadal in the final. Nadal beat Djokovic a few weeks later in the French Open final.
Djokovic is likely to play Rome once again, which will be held from May 10-17.
