Kei Nishikori said that his goal is to win Roland Garros. The world No. 5 won Barcelona last year and reached the final at Madrid, but he lost to Martin Klizan in the first round in Paris. Nishikori beat Klizan in the semifinals of Barcelona and won the title with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Pablo Andujar.
“My goal is to win Roland Garros, but it’s such a different competition given the fact that matches are played in five sets so it’s extremely demanding, both physically and mentally,” he said. “But anyway, since I’ve been playing really well on clay I think I’m ready to face this challenge.”
The 25-year-old said that he has changed his game on clay, becoming more aggressive and going for more on his serve and return. Nishikori is working with one of his longtime coaches, Dante Bottini, this week, and Michael Chang will join him next week in Madrid.
