PARIS—Eugenie Bouchard, who lost in the first round of Roland Garros, says she still cannot figure out why she isn’t playing better.
The No. 6 seed reached the semifinals in Paris last year, but has only won one of her previous nine matches. She lost to world No. 44 Kristina Mladenovic. “Honestly I don't know what to say,” Bouchard said. “It’s been kind of the same as how I have been feeling recently on the court. Just not like myself. So I just feel like it’s been a while that this has been happening, and it's unfortunate. But I’m sure one day it will stop.”
The 21-year-old will move on to the grass-court swing, where she reached the Wimbledon final last year. “I feel like I have been trying to work on what’s been going wrong, and I feel like I have been making progress,” she said. “So to still have matches like this is actually disappointing. But at the same time it’s just a tennis match and I need to not worry too much. Life is still good. Everyone has highs and lows in their career. This is a little bit of a low point for me.”
