PARIS—Agnieszka Radwanska fell to 15-13 on the season with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 first-round loss to world No. 83 Annika Beck. The former No. 2, who has dropped to No. 14 in the rankings, was shaken by the defeat, and says she isn’t sure why she is playing so poorly this year.
“I can’t really do what I want on court and it’s not really working. That makes me nervous and angry,” Radwanska told TENNIS.com. The 26-year-old added that she is slipping for the first time because, “Maybe getting older.”
Radwanska has progressed past the quarterfinals of just one tournament this year, that taking place in Katowice, Poland (her home nation). Heading into Roland Garros, Radwanska lost to Sara Errani in the first round of Stuttgart and fell to close friend Caroline Wozniacki in the third round of Madrid.
“Clay season is not really my favorite one, and I guess it's not getting better, even when I'm really trying to do everything,” Radwanska said. “So I just want to forget about that and focus on grass. My game is not really working together. It's just not the same as the hard court or grass.”
