Nick Kyrgios received a code violation for hitting a ball into the stadium during his quarterfinal loss in Tokyo, his first tour sanction since being put under probation.
The ATP disciplined the Australian following his derogatory remarks about Stan Wawrinka's girlfriend during their match in Montreal. He will be given a one-month suspension if he receives another fine for verbal or physical misconduct, or fines totaling more than $5,000 within the next six months at ATP tournaments. The probation began in August, two weeks following the Montreal incident.
During his match against Benoit Paire in Tokyo, Kyrgios hit a ball upwards into the stadium after getting broken in the third set, and received a code violation. However, he did not appear to receive any violation for several expletives during and following the second set, at least one of which was picked up on television. He fell 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 to the Frenchman.
Kyrgios was critical of the reaction, writing on Twitter, "I find it so funny, playing hard the last 2 weeks, I get one code violation and the Aussie media is all over it.You guys are a disgrace."
Kyrgios is next scheduled to play the Shanghai Masters 1000 tournament.
