Madison Keys and Mats Wilander are no longer working together despite a good performance from the 21-year-old American in their first tournament.

"We have completed our collaboration and I am on my way home," Wilander told Swedish media.

Keys’ agent confirmed the split. The Illinois native is represented by Max Eisenbud.

Wilander, a seven-time Grand Slam champion, worked with Keys for 10 days before Indian Wells, and then again at the Miami Open. Keys reached the quarterfinals of an event for the first time since Wimbledon, but fell to Angelique Kerber, 6-3, 6-2, on Wednesday.

Before a second-round defeat in Indian Wells, she had been sidelined since the Australian Open with an injury.

Wilander may have hinted that all was not going smoothly when he half-jokingly told L'Equipe that he did not know if the relationship would stretch beyond this event. He said he had been approached by the USTA to do some coaching, and Keys was the chosen player.

She is No. 24 in the rankings.
