Early this week, Borna Coric said he anticipated being fit to play for Croatia in the Davis Cup final against Argentina. But on Thursday, Croatia captain Zeljko Krajan announced that he won’t be able to play.
Doubles specialist Franko Skugor has replaced him on the roster.
The 48th-ranked teenager has not played since the Davis Cup quarterfinals two months ago, and is coming off knee surgery.
"Obviously I had this injury and got a bit unlucky," he said at a local press conference before Krajan made the announcement. "I was training very hard for two weeks and I think I'm going to be ready."
World No. 20 Ivo Karlovic has not played in a Davis Cup tie in several years, but he was convinced to make a comeback for the final in Zagreb. World No. 6 Marin Cilic—Croatia’s highest-ranked singles player—and Ivan Dodig round out the team.
Juan Martin del Potro will lead the Argentines in the final of the team competition.
