Kuznetsova, other WTA players are tired of talking about Sharapova

Svetlana Kuznetsova says she and other players are tired of talking about Maria Sharapova.

The controversy about Sharapova's anti-doping suspension became a big topic again this week when she played Eugenie Bouchard, who had called Sharapova a "cheater" in a recent interview with a TV station in Istanbul.

Following her win against Sharapova, Bouchard said she had a lot of good-luck messages from other players in the locker room before the match.

“Players I don't normally speak to,” she said. “Getting a lot of texts from people in the tennis world that were just rooting for me.

Bouchard said it showed her that others "were scared to speak.” Kuznetsova, however, wasn’t afraid to give her take.

"Actually, first of all, I didn't see Genie talking to players," Kuznetsova said, noting that Bouchard was in a different locker room from her and other top seeds. "I mean, Genie doesn't talk much. That's the way she is. She just goes, does her own thing."

Kuznetsova, who is friendly with Sharapova and has been among the few players to publicly back her fellow Russian, said it has stopped being a big topic for those on the WTA tour.

"I don't think the players, at our locker room where I change, nobody talks about it,” she said. "I'm happy she's back. I'm happy she's playing. I'm happy she's doing great … I think she just has to have her time and her comfort zone to work on her things and do … We should also play our game and not kind of talk about it."
