WATCH: Federer talks winning Wimbledon, his emotions and his outlook

Roger Federer further cemented his status as the greatest of all time on Sunday with his 6-3, 6-1, 6-4 win over Marin Cilic in the Wimbledon final.

It was the 35-year-old Swiss’ 19th major title and record eighth championship at the grass-court Slam.

After his triumph in London, Federer sat down with Tennis Channel’s Brett Haber, Jon Wertheim and Paul Annacone to discuss the tournament, his legacy, his emotions, what went through his head as he served for the title and much, much more.

“This one felt, it was about records, about being the first male player to get to eight Wimbledon victories in singles,” Federer said. “It’s like a big deal. I’ll be always the first who did that. I’m so grateful that I can mark Wimbledon history because of what Wimbledon means to me.”

Over the dominant fortnight, Federer became just the second man in the Open era—Bjorn Born in 1976 being the first—to win Wimbledon without dropping a set.

That nugget of history stunned the champion himself.

“At two sets to love, 2-all, I told myself I’m gonna lose this third set anyways because I’ve never won Wimbledon not dropping a set,” Federer admitted. “Inevitably, I have to drop a set, so probably it’s going to be this third one.”

It didn’t turn out that way, of course, as Federer finished off Cilic rather routinely to wrap up his second Slam of this improbable 2017.
