I nearly halt at including this one, as Serena Williams was game to take a risk in bright yellow at the Australian Open and again in electric blue during the Miami–Indian Wells double.

Still, 'twas a miss, that talked-about crop-top look, mostly due to its angular cut that didn't flatter Serena's physique and almost always looked awkward. (A drinking game developed for each time Serena tugged at the top would've put all players on the floor by the third game of her matches.) Sorry/not sorry, Nike.

Those looks did bow out gracefully to a pleasing center-panel addition to Serena's look at Roland Garros, albeit one largely covered up during that mostly cold fortnight. A pity as, by Paris, she had righted her sartorial ship.

In September, Serena struck again, in her day-session look from the US Open, an unfortunate departure from her nighttime attire. Simply put, the skirt's colors made it look like a car wash.
