Jack Sock has been preparing to take his game to the next level by capitalizing on the 2016 offseason. Surrounded by friends and family in his hometown of Kansas City, Mo., Sock worked hard on both his fitness and his massive forehand.

"Kansas City—it's simple living. It has everything that I need..." Sock said. "Nothing really beats home, so it's nice for me to be back."

Despite the colder training conditions in Missouri, Sock harnessed the love from his community and comforts of home to make up for the less than ideal weather.

A big focus for improving Sock's game has been working on approaching the net more often, while his physical focus has been on recovery. After retiring from the 2015 US Open with cramps, the 24-year-old has improved his fitness to avoid a repeat disappointment.

"It's just making sure that we cover everything from the nutrition, the physical side and the recovery side, so he can go deep in the Grand Slams and second weeks, and deep in the Masters," USTA Strength and Conditioning coach Rodney Marshall said. "That's our goal now."

With a few years on the tour under his belt, the No. 23-ranked Sock knows much better what it takes to be the best. He's already started on the right foot at the Hopman Cup in Perth, winning all three of his singles matches as well as all three of his mixed doubles matches (with CoCo Vandeweghe).
