A documentary about Roger Federer's final tournament, the 2022 Laver Cup, is in production

Tennis fans will soon get a raw and unfiltered look at Roger Federer's final days as a professional tennis player. Bloomberg is reporting that a documentary about Federer's final tournament, the 2022 Laver Cup, is currently in production at Amazon.

What began as a home-movie project to chronicle Federer's final tournament in collaboration with Joe Sabia, who was recommended to Federer by longtime friend Anna Wintour after he produced the series "73 Questions" for Wintour's \Vogue \magazine, quickly became something greater after Federer and those closest to him viewed the footage.

“It’s a snapshot of my life over those 12 days, which is pretty hardcore and interesting,” Federer said in an interview with the outlet's Lucas Shaw, calling the film "very personal."

For the first documentary chronicling his life and career, the 20-time Grand Slam singles champion gave filmmakers unprecedented access to both his home and hotel room during the tournament, which was held at London's O2 Arena.

The film will reportedly feature interviews with Federer's chief rivals Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray, as well as his wife Mirka Federer's first interview in more than a decade.

"It’s looking deep into another layer of the tennis tour–how the camaraderie is a good one on the tour," Federer added. "Yes, here are rivalries, but off the court there are friendships and respect.”

There is no release date for the project confirmed yet, but Bloomberg says that the company is aiming for a July release date to coincide with Wimbledon, which Federer won eight times. British filmmaker Asif Kapadia, the Academy Award, BAFTA and Grammy-winning director behind "Senna," the documentary about Formula One driver Ayrton Senna, and "Amy," about the late singer Amy Winehouse, is also involved in the project.
