It’s never too early to start making plans, right?

That’s one approach the Abierto Mexicano de Tenis is taking. On Wednesday, the 500-level tournament revealed that it has commitments from four members of the ATP’s current Top 10—including Nos. 2 through 4—to make its move to new venue Arena GNP Seguros all the more special.

One event newcomer who will surely star in the main stadium court boasting a capacity greater than 10,000 spectators is US Open champion Daniil Medvedev. The world No. 2 has previously played Dubai on two occasions (pre-pandemic seasons when it was held in the same tournament week) and is a regular fixture of February’s indoor European swing.

The two men who faced off in this year’s final, No. 3 Stefanos Tsitsipas and No. 4 Alexander Zverev, are also back. Zverev improved his event record to 12-3 when he denied the Greek a victorious debut with a 6-4, 7-6 (2) win.

Like Medvedev, Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini will also be a fresh face local fans will appreciate seeing for the first time. The Italian is the only competitor of the four yet to lift a hard-court trophy on tour, though Tsitsipas is also looking to do so in an outdoor environment for the first time.

The ATP is yet to officially release any portion of its 2022 calendar. Acapulco’s digital promotions included February 21-26 for its run date.
