Stan Smith has famously said that, rather than a tennis Hall of Famer, some people think he’s a shoe. So much so, that he wrote a book about it. There may be no vintage sneaker as well-known and beloved as the Stan Smith signature.

Since its popularity took hold in the 1970s, the shoe has morphed from on-court performance shoe into off-court fashion staple, donning the feet from celebrities to grade-schoolers. Over the years, collaborators such as Pharell Williams and Homer Simpson have partnered with Adidas for unique takes on the classic silhouette. The limited-editions typically experiment with fabrics and colors to create fun and distinctive models.

Now. British designer Craig Green, a familiar hand with the brand, brings two fresh and innovative interpretations to the line.

The CG Boost Stan keeps its classic shape, but uses current Adidas technology to bolster its cushioning and comfort. A die cut upper sits on a midsole made entirely of Boost material. The shoe will be available in black, white and silver colors.

The CG Split Stan literally slices the shoe in half. A protruding branded rubber divider serves as the connecting glue and the model’s most distinguishing feature. It’s offered in three monochromatic colorways: black, white and khaki.

Just like the original, these updates include the familiar three stripe perforations on the upper, Stan Smith logos on the tongue and the trefoil branding on the heel.

Both models launch Sept. 14 on adidas.com and select retailers.
