Five years ago at Wimbledon, American Alison Riske-Amritraj broke new ground at a Grand Slam with a quarterfinal showing. To get there, she famously upset future winner Ashleigh Barty in the Aussie's first Grand Slam tournament as world No. 1 in the fourth round.
But during this year's London fortnight, Riske-Amritraj is celebrating a different kind of first: the birth of her first child, daughter Calen Ann Amritraj. The former world No. 18 announced Monday with husband, Stephen Amritraj, that little Calen "entered the chat" on July 5.
Her unique first name is a portmanteau of the names that belong to two of "the most important ladies" in the couple's life, Riske-Amritraj says: their mothers Carol and Helen. (Both women, ironically, share the same middle name, which has now been passed on, too.)
"May she be full of the same grace, love, grit, and strength, (amongst many other wonderful things), as her namesakes," Riske-Amritraj wrote on social media.
