Agassi USTAF Award

Andre Agassi will be in town for this year’s US Open for a special reason.

The eight-time major winner is set to be honored with the USTA Foundation’s Serving Up Dreams Award at their annual Opening Night Gala. This year’s ceremony will take place Sunday, August 24 and highlights “an individual who embodies the values of dedicated service to advance the USTA Foundation’s work to prepare young people for the life challenges they will face, both on and off the court, through the powerful combination of tennis, education and life skills development.”

Agassi’s efforts off the court over the years are certainly worthy of recognition. Having founded the Andre Agassi Foundation for Education, the philanthropic endeavor has raised more than $180 million in its mission to bring educational opportunities to underserved communities.

“Investing in education is one of the most powerful ways you can transform lives and communities. While my career may have been in tennis, I believe my true calling is to help create quality academic opportunities for young people that I frankly didn’t have,” Agassi said in a statement provided by the USTA Foundation.

“It’s a privilege to be able to make a difference and help give kids the chance to choose their own path. This honor serves as a reminder that when you put in the hard work and hold yourself accountable for achieving real outcomes, you can change lives. That’s the only result that truly matters.”

One of the American’s flagship projects, the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy (Agassi Prep), is a continuing success story in his native Las Vegas. The free public charter school opened in 2001, and graduated nine senior classes before turning over operations to Democracy Prep.

Believes USTA Foundation CEO Ginny Ehrlich, “Andre’s commitment to helping young people from under-resourced communities find their excellence and achieve their dreams through access to quality education is changing lives and opening doors that may have once seemed out of reach.”

Agassi follows fellow International Hall of Fame inductees Andy Roddick (2024) and Chris Evert (2023) as recent Serving Up Dreams Award recipients.
