Anett Kontaveit made her Break Point debut earlier this month when the second set of first-season episodes dropped, and may play an even bigger part of next season as cameras appear to be following the Estonian through her final tour appearance at Wimbledon.

“I think so,” she joked in press before addressing the crew directly, “Are you guys doing that?”

Ironically enough, Kontaveit already featured in a retirement episode of Break Point, appearing in the 2022 US Open-centric episode when she took on 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams for what would be her final Grand Slam appearance.

“Full truth, I don't think there's something that intriguing,” she added of her potential second-season storyline.

The former No. 2 shocked the tennis world when she announced she would be retiring after The Championships, and was flattered by the shocked that she had been placed on Court 6 to play Lucrezia Stefanini—one of the All England Club’s smaller offerings—first on Tuesday and again on Wednesday.

I cannot play without pain pretty much the whole match, so it was something that of course I considered for a very long time. But it was a very difficult decision, and once I decide something big like this, I don't usually start doubting it. Anett Kontaveit on her decision to retire after Wimbledon

“I do hope to get a bigger court next time,” she said after the 6-4, 6-4 victory. “I was not expecting to play on Centre Court or a huge court anyway.

“It's their decision and nothing I can do about it. Yeah, just deal with whatever comes my way and try to do the best I can.”

Her colleagues have also been wishing her well in the locker room, going so far as to beg her to reconsider retiring.

“It's really sweet that they're trying,” she said of good friend Ons Jabeur, who described her attempts to convince Kontaveit to extend her career in press on Tuesday. “A lot of people tried, I think.

“But, I mean, these decisions, because I cannot play without pain pretty much the whole match, so it was something that of course I considered for a very long time. But it was a very difficult decision, and once I decide something big like this, I don't usually start doubting it.”

Kontaveit will nonetheless aim to stay at Wimbledon as long as possible, with a second-round clash against No. 32 seed Marie Bouzkova looming next. But what does the 27-year-old have planned after she hangs up her racquets?

“I'm studying psychology,” she said. I'm going to continue doing that. Then, yeah, we'll see what the future brings.”
