Alexander Zverev's new racquet: world No. 2 chooses Buenos Aires and Golden Swing to get earlier reps on clay

Although he lost to Robin Haase in the second round at Paris, Alexander Zverev will be the new No. 3 player in the world on Monday. He will also be competing as one of the eight stars at London’s ATP Finals starting on November 12.

It’s been a breakthrough year so far for the 20-year-old German.

Best Performance

It's tough to pick Zverev's best performance this year because he had so many. Was it more impressive that he won his first ATP Masters 1000 title by defeating Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-3 in Rome? Or was his 6-3, 6-4 victory over Roger Federer in the Montreal final the greater feat?

Zverev's most disappointing loss had to be his second-round exit at the US Open after many had tapped him to be the favorite in the top of the draw. He lost to fellow young star Borna Coric in four tight sets.

Zverev is a unique young star on tour thanks to his lack of interest in social media. He has a modest Instagram presence, but he isn't on Twitter at all. After winning Washington, but before taking out Federer in Montreal, Zverev was asked about his reaction to Federer and Rafael Nadal saying he could be No. 1 someday.

"It’s always nice to hear stuff from Roger and from Rafa, that they think I can become the world No. 1,” Zverev said. "They know what it takes. A lot of journalists say, ‘He might be a world No. 1, he might be a Grand Slam champion.’ But coming from fellow tennis players, it's something that I see as more value because they know how to do it."
