Players don't think enough about spacing. Sometimes it’s easy to get to the ball, but you can get too close to it, or not close enough. Learn to make contact in your strike zone as often as possible; this is the way to build consistency.
This drill will help you improve your spacing, footwork and stamina by forcing you to hit ground strokes from your non-natural side of the court. You’ll be hitting backhands from the forehand side and forehands from the backhand side.
Set your ball machine to alternately hit one ball to one side of the court and one to the other. Start out on the forehand side and hit a backhand inside in (down the line closest to you).
(1). Move back to the center and hit a forehand from the backhand corner, also inside in (down the line closest to you)
(2). Then recover for the next ball on the forehand side, but this time hit a backhand inside out, to the opposite court
(3). Do the same with your forehand from the backhand corner
(4). Hit eight balls and then take a rest. Once you master this drill, hit 20 balls in a row to work on stamina.
