"It's my newest niece," Barty said. "My sister just had her about 11, 12 weeks ago. Yeah, this is what life is all about. It's amazing."
Barty will get to hold onto her world No. 1 ranking as she starts to turn her attention to playing Dubai in February.
"It's been a hell of a summer," she said. "I mean, if you would have told me three weeks ago that we would have won a tournament in Adelaide, made the semifinals of the Australian Open, I'd take that absolutely every single day of the week."
It's all about perspective isn't it? Barty was disappointed by her loss, but instead of being sullen, she's keeping her chin up, taking solace in the comforts of a newborn and looking at the positives—even after she held a set point in both sets.
"I mean, perspective is a beautiful thing. Life is a beautiful thing," the 23-year-old said. "[Olivia] brought a smile to my face as soon as I came off the court. I got to give her a hug. It's all good."
