Here's a new one: There will be a basketball game in Hisense Arena, the second-largest venue in Melbourne Park, on the second Wednesday of the Australian Open.

Melbourne United and the Cairns Taipans of Australia's National Basketball League will play a regular-season game at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 24. Tickets to the game will include grounds passes to the Open.

Hisense Arena, known to most AO viewers as a tennis facility, is also Melbourne United's home venue.

Nick Kyrgios, Thanasi Kokkinakis and Lleyton Hewitt all helped roll out the event's announcement—as did Dylan Alcott, who's won Paralympic gold medals for Australia in both wheelchair tennis and wheelchair basketball.
