Ben Shelton marriage proposal in Basel has the American blushing just before crucial return game

Shelton was one game away from closing out his first-round match against Tomas Martin Etcheverry when an admirer in the crowd called out to him.

Ben, will you marry me?

Failing to maintain his composure, the American laughed along with the crowd just before the Argentinian served.

Although he would end up losing that game, Shelton did win that first point following the callout.

The American kept it cool and closed out the match on his serve shortly after.

Shelton will face the winner of Adrian Mannarino and Stan Wawrinka, who faced off in a five-setter at the beginning of this year at the Australian Open. Mannarino prevailed, revealing tequila to be the key to success.

It was also at the season's first Slam that the Frenchman defeated Shelton in another five-set showdown, whereas Shelton and Wawrinka have yet to meet.
