Home to a population of over two million, Paris is one of Europe’s major centers for fashion, finance, diplomacy and more. This alone makes Roland Garros unlike the other three major tournaments.
Founded in 1891, Roland Garros, named after the French aviator and World War I fighter pilot, is the only Grand Slam event hosted in a country whose first language is not English. This adds to the unique culture and diversity on the grounds.
Over the tournament’s two-week run, players showed their love for the people, culture and competition. And even though it may be hard to believe, it is not just Rafael Nadal’s favorite tournament.
