Bianca Andreescu is taking the high road after her latest setback on the court.

Early Wednesday evening, the 2019 US Open champion provided a status update on the injury she sustained during her fourth-round match against Ekaterina Alexandrova at the Miami Open. For Andreescu, she will now add two torn ligaments in her left ankle to the list of obstacles thrown her way, but she’s approaching this curveball with a positive outlook.

“It’s tough to say exactly how long it will take, but let’s just say it could’ve been much worse!!” the 22-year-old wrote in a social media post.

Andreescu had looked to be in fine form before going down (when she was ultimately taken off court in a wheelchair), beating Emma Raducanu and Maria Sakakri in a pair of gritty three-setters before outclassing Sofia Kenin, 6-4, 6-4, in a matchup of former major title holders. The trio of victories is expected to push Andreescu back into the Top 30 next week.

“I’m going to take it day by day, and I am optimistic that with the right work, rehab and preparation, I’ll be back on court soon,” she said.

The Canadian’s past injuries have included considerable time away to treat her back, right shoulder and left knee.
