Ahead of her grand marshaling of the New York City Pride March, tennis and civil rights pioneer Billie Jean King spoke with the *New York Post* about her place in LGBTQ his-and-herstory. Notably, she is considering a potential wedding to longtime partner Ilana Kloss.

"We’ve been together 39 years this year," King said, "and we have been discussing getting married, but I have felt married to her since day one. If and when we get married, we want [former NYC] Mayor David Dinkins to marry us."

Stemming from his time helming the City That Never Sleeps, home of the US Open, Dinkins remains close with retired stars including King and Monica Seles.

As far as who she considers her personal (s)heroes in that community, King lists a litany of iconic individuals and groups, from drag-queen legend RuPaul to transgender tennis contemporary Renee Richards:

"Bayard Rustin, the mother of the LGBT civil-rights movement; Barbara Gittings; Karl Heinrich Ulrichs; Magnus Hirschfeld; Audre Lorde; Christine Jorgensen; the Daughters of Bilitis; the members of the Mattachine Society; the people who made the Stonewall Riots historic; Harvey Milk; RuPaul; and my friends Renee Richards, Kate Clinton, Urvashi Vaid and our ally Hudson Taylor. The more you know about history, the more you know about yourself. Go Google them all!"

Elsewhere in the quick Q&A, King shared her thoughts on how rural and small-town LGBTQ youth might forge paths for themselves and addresses the scene in Battle of the Sexes that she found to be "vital" and personally "monumental."

King served as a grand marshal of the NYC Pride March on Sunday alongside Gus Kenworthy, and more local and national notables.

Kloss was by her side, as always.

"Serving as a Grand Marshal in the NYC Pride March was a thrill of a lifetime," King wrote. "When I look at the pride flag, I think of kindness, light, and inclusion. The streets of NY were full of all three today. Love truly does win."
