While Juan Martin del Potro and Eugenie Bouchard will not meet in tournament play this week in Acapulco, they played mini-tennis on the beach to kick off the Abierto Mexicano Telcel, a combined ATP and WTA tour-level event.

After making the news for appearing in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue and taking a stranger on a date to a Brooklyn Nets game, Bouchard looked like she was ready to get back to her winning ways on the (miniature) court.

Del Potro will have to be just a bit sharper when he begins his tournament. After losing to world No. 4 Milos Raonic in the semifinals of his first tournament of 2017 in Delray Beach, Del Potro’s draw in Acapulco is not giving him a break.

The Argentine faces promising American qualifier Frances Tiafoe in the first round, but his reward, should he get through, will likely be world No. 2 Novak Djokovic.

The last time del Potro played Djokovic was at the Rio Olympic Games last year, when the 28-year-old stunned the world and the Serbian in the first round on his way to a silver medal.

Acapulco is Del Potro's second tournament of the season, but it's still an important one for the Argentine, who has worked his way up to No. 32 in the rankings. He will look to capitalize on a lack of points to defend in the spring to boost his seeding as high as possible before the French Open in May.

Bouchard will not have to play a 12-time Grand Slam champion early on in her Acapulco campaign. In fact, there is not a major titlist in her draw, with the top seed being Australian Open semifinalist Mirjana Lucic-Baroni.

The sixth-seeded Canadian is starting off against someone who isn’t currently in the rankings, Ajla Tomljanovic. The Croatian, once ranked as high as No. 47, has not played since the 2016 Australian Open after undergoing shoulder surgery.

While the tennis is about to get serious, Del Potro and Bouchard had their fair share of fun on the beach.

Part-time swimsuit model Bouchard would have plenty of advice on posing.
