It’s been well over a decade since the last *TopSpin* tennis video game series hit consoles and the anticipation is growing ahead of its April 26 release date, which was unveiled by developer Hangar 13 and publisher 2K Games on Tuesday at the BNP Paribas Open.

No one seemed to be more hype than world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz, who is not only a huge fan of video games, but also one of TopSpin 2K25’s five cover stars—joining the likes of Roger Federer, Serena Williams, Iga Swiatek and Frances Tiafoe with the honor.

“Being in (a video game) is funny. It's funny for me,” Alcaraz told press with a grin at Indian Wells. “I always played with a lot of characters, a lot of players, and being able to play with myself is going to be (fun) for me, so I'm really excited about it.

“Yeah, I really want to play (as) myself!"

Based on the comments from fans reacting to the trailer on X and YouTube, it’s safe to say he’s not the only one who’s excited:

“So excited for this. Never been so happy for a game. 13 years later, the legends are back,” one user wrote, along with a string of ‘fire’ emojis.

“It's here finally after 13 years, YES!” added one user on YouTube, while another wrote: “Welcome back!! The TopSpin 2K25 is here!!!!”

“This looks so SICK!!! I cannot wait to play this! Thanks 2K and Hangar 13 for bringing this brilliant series back!!”

It’s been such a long wait that two of the cover stars—Federer and Serena—have both retired by now, but they will be just a couple of the 24 pros that will be playable at launch. The roster includes past legends as well as some current top players:

  • Carlos Alcaraz
  • Iga Swiatek
  • Frances Tiafoe
  • Emma Raducanu
  • Coco Gauff
  • Serena Williams
  • Roger Federer
  • Andre Agassi
  • Steffi Graf

Serena and Federer are set to grace the game's Standard and cross-gen editions, which will be released on April 26 on previous-gen platforms like PS4, Xbox One and PC, as well as current-gen consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Serena Williams and Roger Federer grace the game's Standard and Grand Slam editions, while Iga Swiatek, Carlos Alcaraz and Frances Tiafoe adorn the Deluxe edition.

Alcaraz, Swiatek and Tiafoe will grace the game's Deluxe Edition cover, which will feature additional player skins and outfits for players—as well as an April 23rd release date, three days earlier than the Standard edition. The Grand Slam edition, which features Serena and Federer, will also get an April 23rd early release, and will come with additional goodies including even more player outfits, a special “championship racquet”, “champion serve” and more.

All versions of the game also offer MyPLAYER and a MyCAREER mode, where players will build a fully customizable tennis player of their own, following the ups and downs of their entire career and taking on real pros along the way. Training with John McEnroe at the “TopSpin Academy” will help players progress and level up.

So far, five of the 15 venues have been confirmed in the game—and all of them will be instantly familiar for tennis fans:

  • Arthur Ashe Stadium (US Open)
  • Centre Court (Wimbledon)
  • Court Philippe Chatrier (Roland Garros)
  • Rod Laver Arena (Australian Open)
  • Indian Wells Tennis Garden (BNP Paribas Open)

Wimbledon is an especially noteworthy get, as the sport’s most old-school Grand Slam is known to be stingy with its image rights and famously didn’t feature in previous editions of the game.
