Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic top Forbes highest-paid tennis players list

Ahead of his US Open debut, world No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz finds himself at the top of a different ranking after Forbes unveiled its list of the world’s highest-paid tennis players over the weekend.

The 21-year-old Spaniard occupies the No. 1 spot for the first time, after earning an estimated $42.3 million (USD)—that’s before taxes and agent’s fees are calculated—over the last 12 months, dating to the 2023 US Open.

Alcaraz leapfrogged 37-year-old Novak Djokovic, last year’s top earner, who himself made an estimated $37.2 million in on and off-court earnings during the same period.

While reigning Olympic gold medalist Djokovic may have dominated the on-court battles with $12.2 million of his reported fortune coming from prize money earnings—in contrast to Alcaraz’s own $10.3 million in winnings—it’s clear the younger player has the edge off the court.

Forbes highlighted the current Roland Garros and Wimbledon champion’s lucrative stable of endorsement deals, which includes blue-chip names like Nike, Rolex, Louis Vuitton and BMW, as well as a deal with Netflix for an upcoming docuseries.

A whopping $32 million of Alcaraz’s estimated $42.3 million came from those off-court ventures—which, according to industry insiders, also feature “a jam-packed schedule of appearances and exhibitions that are believed to pay him $1 million—or even $2 million—just for showing up.”
