"There goes 1/4 of my wisdom" - Casper Ruud shares wisdom tooth update

After withdrawing from an ATP 250 event in Houston due to wisdom tooth pain, Casper Ruud took to social media on Thursday to share an update straight from the dentist’s office.

“There goes ¼ of my wisdom if there ever was any,” the 23-year-old captioned his post, which includes a gnarly photo of his bloody tooth post-extraction. (Warning: We’re embedding the post at the bottom of the article, for those who would rather not look.)

The Norwegian admitted he had been struggling with pain in his tooth during his red-hot run in Miami, where he reached his first ATP Masters 1000 final and fell just short of 18-year-old Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in a thrilling match.

“It’s not something I have shared to the media, but the last two, three days I have struggled a little bit with a wisdom tooth which has been bothering me for quite a while,” Ruud revealed during the press conference afterward. “It’s tough to actually swallow and eat enough.

“Maybe the best thing is to take it out, but I hope I don’t need to.”

Ruud was scheduled to travel to Houston for the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championship, where he was set to be the top seed—but ultimately he wasn’t able to make the trip.

A hopefully pain-free Ruud is scheduled to be back in action next week at the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters, which starts on 10 April. No. 7 in the ATP rankings, Ruud won his seventh career title in Buenos Aires and improved to 13-4 on the season with his run in Miami.
