Cibulkova celebrates her first WTA Finals victory

The Slovakian defeated Kerber in thrilling straight sets.

In the final round of the WTA Finals, Dominika Cibulkova dominated Angelique Kerber in a 6-3, 6-4 victory that lasted just over an hour.

The Slovakian bossed the world No. 1 around the baselines, barely giving Kerber a chance to attack, keeping the pressure on throughout the match. It was sweet revenge for Cibulkova after her tough opening night defeat to the German.

It looked like victory would be snatched from her as she tried to close the match, letting slip three match points before fate intervened when her ball clipped the tape and dropped onto Kerber's side for the win.

Cibulkova got glammed up and posed with her trophy afterwards, looking appropriately thrilled about the achievement.

She also had a special message to her fans after the victory.

Cibulkova has risen to a career-high ranking of world No.5.
