Too light, stiff and one-dimensional—those are the chief complaints lobbed against the large majority of current racquet offerings. Usually the barbs come from established players who haven’t been able to shake the playability of the frames they favored in their heyday. They prefer frames with a little more weight, a little more versatility, and a lot more comfort. That’s probably why Volkl keeps around its classic C10 Pro, albeit now with an updated neon yellow and matte black paint job.
From the baseline the C10 Pro favors precision over brute force. Players who generate ample swing speed and consistently clean contact won’t have much difficulty playing offensively. There’s potential to play big serve-big forehand first strike tennis, but I do think there are other frames better suited to that tactic. With eight mains running through the throat of the frame, the 16x19 string pattern is a little denser in the sweet spot, promoting a respectable level of rotation on the ball.Players who prefer flatter strokes and more penetrating, linear ball flights will not be disappointed.
