'Both my picks won': Coco Gauff celebrates correct March Madness predictions

The US Open champion correctly predicted victories for both the University of Connecticut's men's team and the University of South Carolina's women's team in this year's NCAA college basketball tournament.

To the victor goes the spoils (or in this case, bragging rights). Gauff logged onto X Tuesday to celebrate her correct picks after the UConn Huskies won their second straight national championship on Monday night with a dominant 75-60 win over Purdue University.

The South Carolina Gamecocks previously defeated Caitlin Clark's Iowa Hawkeyes 87-75 in Sunday's women's final, which was watched by a record 18.9 million viewers and was the most-watched women's college basketball game ever.

She was quick to point out that her inner oracle was inspired by some external influences.

"I didn’t watch men’s college basketball\] this year," [Gauff replied to a fan. "I only picked UConn because I saw [former President] Obama put them far on his bracket ... [I] had no idea if they were good or not actually."

But Gauff wasn't the only American pro tuned into the March Madness action.

Her doubles partner, world No. 5 Jessica Pegula, said Monday that her social media timeline has been dominated by chatter around Clark, Danielle Collins' spring surge, and Nelly Korda's four-tournament winning streak—"What a fun time for women's sports," she gushed—while Ben Shelton was only a little bit miffed that an important scheduling conflict forced him to miss the final women's game of the season.

"Only thing I’m mad about this weekend is that my final in Houston was at the same time as the SC IOWA game," he said.
