We've seen Coco Chanel on red carpets before. But on Sunday night at the Oscars, the only Coco being talked about was Gauff.

Wearing yellow—not optic yellow, the color of tennis balls, more pastel—Coco cut a striking figure in Hollywood before heading east to the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.

"It was a lot," Gauff told Amelia Dimoldenberg at the Academy Awards about getting ready for the event. "Hair, makeup, the whole 'do. I play tennis so I'm not used to this glam, but it's nice to get dressed for the day."

Even nicer? Her date: her mom, Candi.

"Love being the plus one!!!!" Mrs. Gauff wrote on Instagram—where she also shared a photo with Whoopi Goldberg and Samuel L. Jackson.

There's more: Timothée Chalamet, who played Bob Dylan in the biopic A Complete Unknown, wore essentially the same color as Gauff. If only doubles teams on tour could match as well as these two:

While Chalamet didn't take home the award for Best Actor (Adrian Brody did, for his role in The Brutalist), Gauff hopes she'll go all the way in her big Southern California showcase. She'll need to be a lot better in March than in February: since reaching the Australian Open quarterfinals, the third-ranked Gauff took two losses in Doha and Dubai; she's on a three-match losing streak. Her BNP Paribas Open draw will be revealed Monday afternoon.

For now, the 20-year-old former US Open champion enjoyed one of her moments of a lifetime.

"I'm just like here for the vibes, just enjoying it and just trying to take it all in."
