This past weekend at the Fed Cup final in Strasbourg, the defending champion Czechs were put through the ringer by a formidable French team.

On Day 1, Karolina Pliskova won a marathon battle over her longtime friend Kristina Mladenovic 6-3, 4-6, 16-14 before Carolina Garcia topped Petra Kvitova 7-6 (6), 6-3.

Day 2 saw Garcia win again, this time over Karolina Pliskova, and Barbora Strycova step up to even the tie at 2-2 with a win over Alize Cornet.

It all came down to the doubles rubber, with Strycova and Pliskova taking out Mladenovic and Garcia, 7-5, 7-5. Strycova would end up the hero of the weekend with her back-to-back winning ways.

Needless to say, the Czechs were pretty thrilled.
