Daniil Medvedev crashes into camera, loses to Andrey Rublev for first time in Cincinnati

Mark this down as one of the craziest things you’ll ever see on a tennis court. Leading 6-2, 1-1, Daniil Medvedev appeared to be cruising to his sixth consecutive victory (fifth at the tour level) against his good friend Andrey Rublev in the Cincinnati semifinals. But then, after a well-hit Rublev forehand, Medvedev barreled into a stationary camera at the back of the court while trying to retrieve the ball.

Medvedev, who had complained to the tournament that this camera posed a potential danger given his deep defensive play and supernatural scrambling ability, was understandably frustrated. Unable to control his temper, Medvedev kicked the lens of the camera before taking a medical timeout.

During the timeout, he threatened to sue the ATP several times. It’s an unfortunate incident for Medvedev, who was in control of the match prior to the collision. But credit to Rublev, who capitalized on the change in momentum and raised his level, ultimately winning, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.
