Daniil Medvedev knows he’s a character. He gets about the same kick out of watching his more meme-able moments as fans do.

What remains to be seen is whether his infinite playlist of on-court outbursts, monologues, and one-liners will stand the test of time.

“Now social media is everything, so maybe when I'm 50 years old I could go and still see my videos with some funny things,” he mused after reaching the fourth round of Wimbledon.

Medvedev has embraced the role of cartoon villain—emphasis on “cartoon”—since his breakthrough at the 2019 US Open, a tournament that featured what has become his signature blend of sarcasm and sentiment.

“Yeah, US Open final when I lost to Rafa was quite fun because I was for sure disappointed, but I managed to play it good,” he said, refencing his runner-up speech that both apologized for his more spiteful remarks earlier in the event to the crowd and had them in stitches over the idea of stacking him his resume to Nadal’s.

“If I would win, what would they show?” he joked of the jumbotron showing the Spaniard’s numerous Grand Slam triumphs.

The former No. 1 has continued to go viral in 2023, ranting at length about court conditions through and dropping the now-famous line: “I know what a hard court is; I’m a specialist!”

“Maybe you know they're going to show it to the kids who will not see me play. Say,’ Look, there was a guy who did these crazy things on the court,’” he added after beating Marton Fucsovics in four sets on Saturday.

“Hopefully the good ones!” he adds with a smile.

While Medvedev promises to be on his best behavior this week at the All England Club, the 2021 US Open champion has plenty of opportunity to make another viral moment while he remains in the hunt for a maiden Wimbledon title.
