As Daria Kasatkina adjusts to life without longtime coach Carlos Martinez, the world No. 8 is taking on some coaching duties of her own as she walks girlfriend Natalia Zabiiako through her second official tennis lesson.

Though the former Olympic figure skater has already gotten her off-court pairs partner on the ice, Kasatkina was bearish about her abilities when asked about them at the WTA Finals last fall.

“I am zero figure skater,” Kasatkina joked at the time. “I mean, I like to skate, but she has to always carry me or else I will fall. I'm trying hard to learn how to do it, but I just cannot!”

For her part, Zabiiako shared footage from her lesson on Twitter earlier this week, with likely more to come in the couple’s vlog.

It was on the vlog that Kasatkina revealed she and Martinez had parted ways before the Qatar TotalEnergies Open, giving fans insight into some of the struggles that have threatened to sabotage her 2023 season.

“We worked almost four years together,” she said. “It’s a little scary during the season, when you don’t know a person and you start working during the tournament.”

The vlog’s largely slice of life content drew surprising criticism from 2004 Roland Garros champion Anastasia Myskina who, speaking on Russian television, was evidently expecting more tennis analysis and found herself put off by the supposed lack of substance.

“Anastasia is right, and our vlog is not the most interesting, and I’m still not playing tennis very well,” Kasatkina wrote on her Instagram story. “But can the Vice President of the RTF speak publicly with such negativity, and even anger, about his players?”

All eyes on Zabiiako’s next upload as the drama continues to unfold.
