David Beckham gifts Serena Williams Inter Miami CF jersey at 2025 season opener

Serena Williams received a special gift from Inter Miami CF co-owner David Beckham over the weekend at the Major League Soccer team's 2025 regular season opener: a custom jersey bearing her name and the No. 1.

The retired tennis great was among a star-studded guest list who watched Lionel Messi and company in action at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, as French soccer player Paul Pogba and actress Eva Longoria were also in attendance, the former of whom posed with Williams on the field.

Miami and NYCFC earned a late draw in the game, as the home squad played with 10 men after a red card and Messi assisted on both goals.

In a video posted by the team, Beckham and Williams were seen chatting on the pitch, and sharing a hug, as she connected with the former English great a few short weeks after her viral appearance at another football game: the Super Bowl, where she made a celebrated cameo during Kendrick Lamar's halftime performance.

Williams later shared snapshots of the game to her Instagram account, which included a photo of herself and her oldest daughter Olympia, 7, holding matching personalized pink Miami jerseys.

She also made a joke at Beckham's expense, noting that the pair posed in identical fashion, hands on hips, as they chatted on the pitch.

"Why do athletes do the same thing?" the former world No. 1 quipped.

Williams' connections to both Miami sports, and soccer, run deep. Since 2009, she and her sister Venus have been minority owners of the Miami Dolphins NFL team, and she, and her husband Alexis Ohanian and first-born daughter are among the founding ownership group for Angel City FC in the National Women's Soccer League.
