On Thursday night, Juan Martin del Potro won over even more hearts (if possible) with just one sentence.

"Thank you for inviting me and for giving me the wildcard," the Argentine said after his 7-6 (5), 6-3, 6-2 win over Steve Johnson in the second round.

"I'm so happy to be playing tennis again," Del Potro said. And it sounded like everyone in New York was just as happy to see him. The 2009 US Open champion has suffered through multiple wrist surgeries for the better part of the last three years, but 2016 has seen a huge resurgence in his health, and game.

"I think they are proud to see me playing tennis again after all my surgeries. They know what has been through to get here to come back on tennis," Del Potro said. "That's amazing when I get into the court and the people likes just to see me. I'm having great days at the US Open."

The former world No. 4 (and current world No. 142) continues his comeback tour against No. 11 seed David Ferrer in the third round.
