Dimitrov loses, but his tweets are winning material

A loser in his opening match at the Miami Open, Grigor Dimitrov has nevertheless been winning out in the Twitter game lately. Dispatched by Guido Pella of Argentina by a 6-3, 7-6 (4) count, the Bulgarian dealt with a layover in Switzerland with his all-but-patented brand of good humor:

It's not difficult to see why his Swiss admirers would support him, though draw the line at him possibly usurping the standing of their homegrown talent. Swiss misters Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka not only squared off in the Indian Wells men's singles finale last week, they each landed in the Miami fourth round. (Federer just topped Roberto Bautista Agut in two tiebreaks while Wawrinka fell in three sets—meekly in sets two and three, mind you—to the blossoming Alexander Zverev.)

But enough about the GOAT and the so-called Stanimal. This post is about the regularly gregarious Grigor, who sidled up to an oversized "W" logo for racquet sponsor Wilson Tennis and offered a self-deprecating take on his current situation:

The world No. 13 has surely rounded himself into big-match shape in 2017, currently boasting a 17-4 record. Beauty may be fleeting, and so, relatively, may be one's tennis career. But Dimitrov has taken again to composing for himself a love story with the sport he plays (not just with the women he's dated, which includes Maria Sharapova and Nicole Scherzinger).
