When your team is under attack, a defensive slice lob can save the day. A topspin lob is very difficult to execute; the slice is easier to hit and more reliable. Use a very short backswing, particularly if the ball has a lot of pace. As you make contact, open your racquet face and follow through with an upward motion.
Be sure to hit this defensive shot high and crosscourt. This way you can hit the ball farther and still keep it in the court, and you’ll also give your opponent a tougher overhead as the ball travels over their backhand shoulder. Even if it gets returned, your team will be in a better position than before.
When you work on developing this shot with your partner, be sure to practice while on the move, since you’ll be scrambling when you hit it in a match.don’t need to swing hard. What you give up in power, you’ll gain in control and time.
When hitting this shot, keep your head still and focused on the point of contact for a step or two after striking the ball. Fight the urge to pop up, because if you do, the ball will come up with you.
