Doubles Take looks at the action at the Western & Southern Open and around the grounds of the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York.

The Western & Southern Open, the biggest tournament so far in the return to action for both tours, is well underway this week. On the men’s side, the top two seeded teams—Robert Farah/Juan Sebastian Cabal and Lukasz Kubot/Marcelo Melo both fell early. The women haven’t seen upsets of that magnitude, with Aryna Sabalenka/Elise Mertens and Nicole Melichar/Yifan Xu rolling on, but there are unseeded duos like Viktoria Kuzmova and Iga Swiatek playing deep into the draw.

There’s a lot going on at the tournament site as players in both singles and doubles get ready for the US Open. They’re even getting in some practice time together: Last year’s singles finalist, Daniil Medvedev, and Marco Demoliner have hit the court for a few sessions, with the Brazilian holding his own.

Jamie Murray, who is in the quarterfinals with Neal Skupski, has spent some time on the makeshift golf course when he’s not grinding it out on court.

And even though he lost early with Denis Shapovalov, Rohan Bopanna’s workout secrets were exposed to the world—or at least to Nicolas Mahut’s Instagram followers.

Everyone’s going to be hanging out for a while in New York, so they might as well get comfortable doing so.
