Perhaps that run inspired some of the local favorites taking the court on Tuesday at Wimbledon. The biggest surprise came in mixed doubles, when youngsters Harriet Dart and Jay Clarke shocked the top seeds, Mate Pavic and Gabriela Dabrowski, in straight sets.
Despite Jamie Murray falling in five sets on Centre Court with Bruno Soares, it was still a banner day for the Brits. The men’s tournament will have two players representing the Union Jack in the semifinals as Dominic Inglot and Joe Salisbury won with their respective partners Franko Skugor and Frederik Nielsen.

Jack Sock/Sloane Stephens vs. Ekaterina Makarova/Bruno Soares (2)
Scheduling can be tricky at times during a Grand Slam, a fact Stephens will attest to after this tournament: She hasn’t been on court for a match since Saturday. She and Sock were lights out in their first two matches, but will rust have crept in to the US Open champ’s game? The Americans will have to be at their sharpest against two of the best doubles players in the world.

Timea Babos/Kristina Mladenovic (1) vs. Alicja Rosolska/Abigail Spears
At the French Open, Babos and Mladenovic were stopped short in their bid for the calendar-year Grand Slam by an unseeded team in the quarterfinals. You can better believe they’re entering this match with their guards up, especially against players as experienced as Rosolska and Spears, who’ve already won a title on grass this year. Babos—who will sit atop the rankings after the tournament—and Mladenovic reached the Wimbledon final back in 2014, and look ready for a return trip this year.
