For the unofficial global ambassador of all things Toronto sports, Drake took his time in congratulating Bianca Andreescu on her historic run at this year’s US Open.

In his defense, he “liked” all of the posts featuring Canada’s first Grand Slam singles champion. He figured she would notice, she didn’t.

On the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Fallon asked if there is any Canadian she hasn’t heard from yet. “Champagne Papi I’m waiting for you!” Andreescu responded jokingly.

Near the end of her Tennis Canada press conference, while putting on her jacket and getting ready to leave, Andreescu broke the news. “Oh, Drake messaged me by the way.”

Drake told Andreescu, “Here I am (smiley face) Congrats! We are all so proud of you, I’ve been liking every post with you in it lol, I thought you’d see.”

Andreescu took her time to respond because she didn’t know what to say. But she got back to him, “I can’t R-bomb him,” she said.

For those unfamiliar with teenage slang terminology, an “R-bomb” would mean she left him on read.

While she is thrilled to be communicating with Canada’s most popular recording artist, Andreescu didn’t really want media outlets to pressure Drake into responding. “It’s gotta come naturally,” she said.

Better late than never, right?
