Eugenie Bouchard had to take a trip to urgent care after a freak injury scare during pickleball training, the Canadian recently revealed on social media.

The 30-year-old shared a series of Instagram Stories where was seen with a swollen and bruised left eye after being struck by the hard plastic ball.

“Got hit in the eye with a pickleball during training today,” Bouchard wrote. “It was a shank off my partner’s paddle straight into the eye.

“Went to urgent care and have a scratched cornea.”

The Canadian also included a post-visit photo, which shows her making a thumbs up gesture while wearing a black medical eye patch.

“The things we do for this sport!” she added, with a pickle emoji. “Will be healed in a matter of days.”

A Wimbledon finalist in 2014, Bouchard made the switch to professional pickleball at the start of the season, and opened up about the tough transition process from one sport to another in an exclusive interview with TENNIS.com:

“So many things that I would do in tennis are not what you want to do in pickleball,” Bouchard revealed. “So it's kind of like I have to rewire my brain and just spend a lot of time on the practice courts and playing matches until I finally got some wins.

“I still have a long way to go, but at least I feel like I belong a little more.”

Practice mishaps aside, Bouchard seems to be increasingly settling into her new sport with one of her around-the-post shots making it to SportsCenter's Top 10 back in November.
