Roger Federer was interviewed while celebrating the New Year at the Hopman Cup New Years Eve Gala. He didn't hold back as he talked about his children, injuries, success, greatest rivals and his favorite match of all time.

When asked if he "can comprehend winning 17 Grand Slams," Federer gave a modest answer.

"Today, I can believe that I did it, but looking back... I never expected to be where I am today. Hopman Cup was my first title, it's not on the resume, but it was my first one," he said. "And now here I am, 17 slams later. It's quite extraordinary. I still pinch myself."

During that climb to 17 majors, Federer has had a myriad of rivals across his career including, lately, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. When asked who he thought his greatest rival was, the answer wasn't too surprising.

"I'd have to pick Rafa," Federer said. "The way he played against me has always been extremely difficult. I think I played too many clay court matches against because I'm scared now, I think."

Federer started his season in Perth, finishing with a 2-1 singles record (his only loss coming to Alexander Zverev in three tiebreak sets).
