Racquet: Wilson Ultra 100 v4 ($249)
The fourth installment of the Ultra finds it still producing the frame’s easy power with minimal effort, but it looks and feels more refined. The updated geometry and thinner shaft have made it more aerodynamic and ergonomic than previous generations. Wilson has added its FortyFive technology to increase the frame’s flexibility while still retaining impressive power and stability. This improves the racquet’s feel, control and comfort—all upgrades over its predecessor—and noticeably increasing the playability. The spread string pattern offers a wide spin window, well-suited for players looking to showcase a power baseline game. And the eye-catching color-shifting blue cosmetic makes for an impressive appearance.
Apparel: Alo Match Point Tennis Skirt ($68); Cropped All Day Short Sleeve ($48); Performance Eclipse Visor ($48)
For those unfamiliar with the label, Alo is a favorite among the fitness, yoga and athleisure crowd. However, the brand also has a line of tennis pieces that score points both on and off the court. The Match Point Skirt is made with lightweight performance fabric that adjusts to your movement while keeping you dry. The generous boxer-style elastic waistband affords a comfortable and flattering fit. Built-in shorts with a side pocket provide added support and storage options.
The crew neck short sleeve top is made of super-soft modal jersey fabric. It’s loose-fitting and airy so it doesn’t weigh you down or impede when taking big swings. The cut hits right at the waist for players wanting a cropped look.
The one-size, adjustable visor protects your eyes with a hard, holographic sun shield. It is made with high-performance woven fabric and an interior mesh sweatband to prevent sweat from disturbing your vision.
Shoe: Adidas Barricade 13 ($160)
After a brief hiatus and near head-to-toe makeover, the latest Barricade continues its recent trend of employing subtle tweaks to its updated formula. The upper has more mesh for increased flexibility, greater comfort and a shortened break-in period. Underfoot, the new Repetitor midsole replaces the previous model’s Bounce foam for improved court connection and smoother transitions. The asymmetrical U-throat and off-set lacing system allow you to really cinch up the laces tight—if need be—while preventing any pressure or pinching to the top of the foot. The Torsion System is the shoe's backbone, preventing twisting through the midfoot during explosive cuts and changes of direction. Toe-draggers will appreciate the heavily reinforced TPU (Adituff) that encapsulates much of the toe box and the medial side of the upper. Add it all up and the Barricade remains one of the top choices when it comes to stability, durability and support.
