It hasn't been the best clay season for Nicole Gibbs. The 26-year-old recently had to pull out of the French Open so she could undergo surgery for salvary gland cancer. After going to her dentist for a routine checkup she learned that a growth on the roof of her mouth was malignant.

"It was definitely earth-shattering for the first few days where we were still trying to figure out what's what exactly," she told the TODAY show.

Gibbs announced her diagnosis on social media earlier in the week and underwent surgery on Friday.

Thankfully, the surgery was very successful, and Gibbs is currently recovering.
